Are we a sustainable brand?
ARE WE SUSTAINABLE?
Sustainability is a word being whacked on many garments and products to make you feel good about buying them. But, are they truly sustainable or is it just a marketing strategy that appeals to our social and environmental guilt? There are regulators out there making these judgements; BCorp is a great place to find companies that meet high standards of social and economic performance, accountability and transparency. If you're interested, they'll give you an idea of what to look for in a sustainable company. As a tiny brand (making absolutely massive bags), we don't have the budget to pay for this kind of certification, so please judge for yourself:
A FEW THINGS WE DO0-
- we use a social enterprise in East London to sew every single waxed cotton product
_ we use BCI cotton
- we use regulated UK manufacturers to ensure ethical conditions of the print and garment workers
-we use over 95% of the fabric roll for product with clever cutting and design to reduce waste
-we donate the off cuts we cannot use to the sewing school at Fabric Works Social Enterprise
-we make small production runs and aim to sell out a style before producing anymore- absolutely nothing goes to landfill, seconds are donated to grassroots charitable fund raising efforts.
- we continuously aim to improve the quality of our product, so that it's useful and so that it lasts
(we want you to buy another one, but not because your first one broke!)
- we are happy to be completely transparent about our sources, please email nancy@thecontentsbag.com if you have any questions.
